Description
Danza Maracaibeada for flute and bass clarinet belongs to a three-movement piece commissioned by Dr. Joanna White and Dr. Kennen White, members of “The Crescent Duo” of Michigan. This piece was composed in 2003. “Danza Maracaibeada” is inspired by a folk genre from the Western area of Venezuela, called “Danza Zuliana,” which depicts syncopations in a 6/8 meter mixed with lyrical melodies. At some moments of the piece, both performers need to make use of extended techniques to emulate the rhythmic patterns of the typical drums of the aforementioned genre.
