Tema y Variaciones de “El Gavilán”
MB-033 Composer Agelvis Sánchez Daza flute/piccolo Letter / A4 – downloadable PDF
Description
Tema y Variaciones de “El Gavilán”. These variations on the famous theme El Gavilán by Ángel Custodio Loyola were created for a recording by the ensemble Reinabarena. El Gavilán is a classic piece from the Venezuelan plains, or llanos, and this version also incorporates elements from the Gabán genre, another traditional style from the region. Originally conceived as an arrangement for the group, the piece gradually developed into an original composition through the work on its variations and overall structure. It was adapted for piccolo as part of the ensemble’s search for new textures and sound possibilities. Eduardo Gómez recorded the work with the group and later included it on one of his solo albums. The piece has since been performed by several other flutists and ensembles, including Manuel Rojas, Marco Granados, Luis Julio Toro with Ensamble Gurrufío, and Sankofa Trío of Colombia, among others. It was also selected as part of the required repertoire for the Yamaha National Flute and Piccolo Competition in Venezuela.
