Jota Carupanera

Jota Carupanera was composed in 2004 and featured on Nicolás Real’s album Music from Eastern Venezuela. Originally written for two flutes, the piece showcases a distinctive rhythmic pattern that alternates between 2/4 and 7/16 meters. This rhythmic complexity is balanced by an energetic and joyful melody, evoking the musical spirit of Carúpano, a town in northeastern Venezuela. The composition develops a single musical theme through subtle variations and incorporates extended techniques that emulate the sound of the Venezuelan cuatro, reflecting the traditional accompaniment typical of the original folk genre.
