Canción para Meme (Song for Meme)
MB-026 Composer Nicolás Real Flute quartet (3 flutes and alto/bass flute) Letter / A4 – downloadable PDF
Description
Canción para Meme (Song for Meme) This is the first composition by Nicolás Real. The composer was inspired by the life and legacy of his maternal grandmother, Meme, as well as by the nostalgia for Venezuela’s early 20th-century way of life. The piece was originally composed in 1996 for flute quartet and premiered by Miquirebo—Flute Quartet of Venezuela. It was later adapted for flute choir by the composer.
From a musical perspective, Canción Para Meme features homophonic and counterpoint textures within a modal harmonic framework. The work presents two main themes: the first is reminiscent of the Impressionist style, dominated by the colours of the flute’s middle and low registers; the second is characterized by a simple and naive melody that contrasts in tone colour and intention.
